From this Thursday (25th) onwards, the Unified Health System (SUS) will carry out plastic surgery to repair the breast immediately after its removal due to cancer, preferably in the same surgical procedure. The determination was published this Thursday in the Official Gazette of the Union.

Amends Law no.O 9,797, of May 6, 1999, which “provides for the obligation of breast repair plastic surgery by the network of units that are part of the Unified Health System – SUS in cases of mutilation resulting from cancer treatment”, to provide for the moment of breast reconstruction. |
A PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC I make it known that the National Congress decrees and I sanction the following Law:
Art. 1O The art. twoO of Law no.O 9,797, of May 6, 1999, comes into force with the addition of the following §§ 1O and 2O:
“Art. twoO ………………………………………………………………..
§ 1O When technical conditions exist, reconstruction will be carried out at the same surgical time.
§ twoO If immediate reconstruction is impossible, the patient will be referred for follow-up and will be guaranteed surgery immediately after achieving the required clinical conditions.” (NR)
Art. 2O This Law comes into force on the date of its publication.
