PRONAF
Program Pronaf
O Program National Strengthening of Family Agriculture (Pronaf) was created in 1995, initially as a rural credit line. Today it involves a set of actions aimed at increasing productive capacity, generating employment and increasing the income of family farmers, with the aim of promoting development in rural areas. .
Access to rural credit is one of the actions aimed at farmers in the agricultural segment known as family farming, who administer, manage and work on the development of their activities, according to the classification defined in Law 11,326, of July 24, 2006.
Rural credit in the country has several Software, and one of them is called Pronaf, representing the action of providing credit lines suited to the needs of family farmers and their forms of organization.
Pronaf is intended to stimulate income generation and improve the use of family labor, through financing rural agricultural and non-agricultural activities and services developed in rural establishments or in nearby community areas.
Pronaf is present in almost all municipalities in Brazil. The execution of the Program It is carried out by Public and Private Banks, the BNDES and Rural Credit Cooperatives. This form of operation allows broad access to rural credit for different groups in family farming, such as: agrarian reform settlers, beneficiaries of land credit, low-income family farmers (Group B), dynamic family farmers (Group V) and even people and traditional communities such as indigenous people, quilombolas, artisanal fishermen, riverside dwellers and others.
Rural credit operations under Pronaf allow beneficiaries of family farming to finance the acquisition of inputs, seeds, to cover the costs of their activities, such as the production of corn, milk and beans.
In addition to financing production costs, Pronaf is of great importance for the modernization of family businesses, with consequences for increasing production and productivity. Pronaf allows the financing of machines, tractors, cargo vehicles, equipment and market technologies for the modernization and competitiveness of family farming enterprises and their cooperatives.
