A report presented by the British organization CAF (Charities Aid Foundation) showed that Brazil occupies 18th place in the ranking of the most supportive nations in the world, indicating a trend towards increased donations and Volunteering in the country. Additionally, 76% of people helped a stranger, 41% donated money to an organization and 25% dedicated time to Volunteering in Brazil.
“In contexts where government actions seem limited or insufficient to meet the needs of the population, many individuals are willing to make donations and encourage efforts. This is certainly the case in Brazil”, points out the study.
The search World Giving Index (WGI) 2022 considers the proportion of people who answered yes to three questions: they helped a stranger or a person who did not explicitly ask for help; donated money to some organization Charity and exercised Volunteering. The index takes into account countries in relation to their population, not absolute numbers.
The analysis is carried out annually by CAF, an organization that brings together companies, private philanthropists, foundations, governments and non-governmental organizations with the aim of founding and financing institutions with Social Impact. With international coverage, the institution seeks to inspire and innovate through collaborations, share best practices and promote donations without borders in favor of Civil society.
The data collected also shows that, in 2018, seven of the ten countries at the top of the list of most supportive nations were high-income. In 2020, after the pandemic, this number was the opposite: seven of the ten were from low and middle income. The topic has already been addressed by the Observatory of Third sector, which analyzed how the crisis caused by Covid-19 impacted the Solidarity global.
