Fundraising Trends for 2020

In recent years, the world has been talking a lot about the Millennial generation. While nonprofits continue to be responsible for the generation of Millennials since they are the majority of today's workforce, now is the time to start examining the Generation Z.

Its members were born after 1996 and represent 27% of the estimated population.

They are also sometimes called “iGen”, a term that denotes the digital and cloud natives that make up this generation. A Generation Z represents a quarter of the American population and, in 2020, will be responsible for 40% of all consumers. Understanding them will be fundamental to the success of your institution in 2020 and the next decade.

O Global Giving Trends Report noted that members of the Generation Z are interested in supporting many different causes. The main causes they are interested in are the social inclusion of young people, animal protection causes and the protection of people's rights. The members of Generation Z are also quite passionate and are willing to help as volunteers.

Although the majority of Generation Z has not yet entered the job market, they are very motivated to do “good” and give back. But be authentic – the digital natives of Generation Z can quickly determine whether an organization is being truthful.

What can your institution do?

  • Be concise and get their attention. This generation is growing up with access to an incredibly vast amount of information, much of it irrelevant to their lives. To survive, they had to learn to quickly filter and classify information. They are also skilled in block out marketing “noise”. To grab their attention, provide an engaging, immediate experience and keep your messages brief and compelling.
  • Mobile, Mobile, Mobile. A Generation Z It is the first generation for mobile only. The members of Generation Z spend a lot of time on their phones, preferring to carry out all online activities this way. Your website and page Donation should be optimized for mobile.
  • Visuals are important. A Generation Z spend a lot of time on visual platforms like Instagram. When trying to communicate with the Generation Z, it's important to emulate these platforms and create and use authentic images. In addition to photos and videos, infographics are also a great tool for relaying data in a memorable and digestible way. Use visuals to tell captivating stories.

Good Luck, if you need anything, we are here.
