But Ruan lives in a poor, miserable village where hunger is a constant problem. He knows that education is the key to a better future, but many children in his village don't have the opportunity to learn.

Hunger is a global problem that affects millions of people around the world. On the African continent, the situation is even more serious, with countries like Mozambique facing alarming levels of food insecurity.

According to the United Nations (UN), approximately 4.2 million people in Mozambique are acutely food insecure, o que significa que não têm acesso a alimentos suficientes para suprir suas necessidades básicas. Dessas pessoas, 2.2 million are at risk of hunger.

The numbers are alarming and show that hunger is a serious problem that affects millions of people in Mozambique.

The causes of hunger in Mozambique are complex and include factors such as:

• Armed conflict: Mozambique still faces the effects of the civil war that broke out in the country in 1977 and ended in 1992. The conflict left a legacy of destruction and poverty, which hampers the country's economic and social development.
• Climate: Mozambique is a tropical country that is often affected by extreme weather events such as droughts and floods. These natural disasters can destroy crops and infrastructure, harming food production and access to food.
• Poverty: Poverty is a widespread problem in Mozambique, where more than 50% of the population lives below the poverty line. This makes access to food, housing, education and healthcare difficult.

The effects of hunger are devastating for the population of Mozambique. People who go hungry are more prone to disease, infant mortality and malnutrition. Furthermore, hunger can lead to forced migration, violence and social instability.
