What we do

Our objective is to have autonomy, promotion and defense of indigenous rights combined with the development of income generation and cultural strengthening activities.

Our story

In 2014 the Project Babaçu paiter Suruí was created by the association through meetings with members and diagnoses of the area and the Product, in addition, the paíter already used it as food security, medicine, handicrafts and in the construction of maloca and tapiri roofs, strengthening cultural practices with sustainable income generation from natural resources and traditional knowledge in the Sete de Setembro Indigenous Land with the following by-products; which provides for the full use of coconut collected in the forest, Babassu oil, mesocarp flour, handicrafts and soap. At the end of 2015, Soenama began a new challenge, seeking Institute of Forestry and Agricultural Management and Certification – Imaflora, socio-environmental certification following the principles and criteria recommended by the Forest Stewardship Council® – FSC, for its traditional practices of management of forestry species, processing and marketing of products and by-products originating, firstly, of babassu. And in 2016 there was certification from the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), obtained by Partnership between the association and the IMAFLORA certifier, with its babassu grove fully covered by the seal and within the management plan carried out. The appreciation of indigenous culture combined with its economic development based on forest management of non-timber products also promotes the territorial protection of indigenous land and the maintenance of its forest. O Project Babaçu meets several policies and legal instruments that support and promote indigenous productive initiatives that originate from their culture and are based on the sustainable use of natural resources within their territories for commercial purposes. Obtaining FSC® certification. Providing consumers with products with guaranteed ethnic and territorial origin and managed in a sustainable way. The delimited management unit has approximately 91 hectares and is made up of tree, shrub and palm species. Currently, the association has great difficulty in producing and marketing its products, due to the lack of resources and adequate machinery, but they continue with a small artisanal production together with the community. O Project Babaçu Paiter Suruí of Line 10, intends to create a structure for taking advantage of the Babaçu production chain, generating income and quality of life with Sustainability to indigenous people articulated by the SOENAMA Association. As Project The aim is to put into action and practice the Project as well as improvement in the community. Knowing that there are several challenges that must be faced, but there is a lot to be done to reach the appropriate level. It aims to reach other communities by generating income without losing traditional culture.
