I work with millions of resources every year and one of my daily goals is to never lose resources. I think it's absurd, because of a mistake, a forgetfulness, or a lack of information, laziness, negligence, lack of study or leniency, resources can be lost.
A person in a hospital bed, needing equipment to stay alive, a disabled child needing a wheelchair, a young person at risk who needs a Program of the government to stay off the streets, these are all public policies that cannot and should not wait, much less the loss of this type of resource due to negligence or error.
I understand that federal public resources must reach the most needy population as soon as possible, so it is unacceptable that I end up losing a resource. And I work day in and day out to prevent this from happening.
But in 2019, after working for a whole year, from February to December on indicating the resource, preparing the Project, making the Work plan, carrying out due diligence, correcting errors and mistakes made by an NGO, due to technical problems, I was forced to migrate the resource to another institution, I reached the end of the year with a balance of around 800 thousand to be appointed to an organization of the Third sector. It was already the end of the first half of December, meaning time was my biggest enemy.
He didn't have much time, he knew that. So, I ran to find an institution that didn't have any kind of rough edges, that had reasonable expertise, that had the experience I wanted in the area of the resource, and that had specialists to execute the project. Project.
I ended up choosing an educational institution in the city of Patos de Minas, in the state of Minas Gerais, an educational institution with extensive experience in the area I needed. Highly specialized technical staff. Previous experience from years of intense work. More than fifty years of existence with extensive national and international experience in executing resources.
Well, I analyzed it, I thought, now, nothing can go wrong. I chose the institution, I did my preliminary analyses, I checked the CNPJ, statute, tax documentation, certificates, experience, I maintained contact with the institution, we aligned our interests, I made the recommendation.
Thus, the body Grantor requested the institution's documentation and began all its technical analyzes again.
As we were already entering the beginning of the second half of December, I knew that our deadline was extremely tight and that there could be no mistakes.
Well, around Christmas, I don't remember exactly which date, I received a message from Grantor informing that the institution could not be nominated as it was not an organization of the Civil society. hey…..? I jumped up from my chair, like, of course it was, that would be a beginner's mistake, which I couldn't have made. Choosing an organization that was not a non-profit institution? that would be the end of the sting.
I went to analyze the CNPJ again, everything seemed perfect, I checked once again with the body Grantor, and he explained to me that it was actually a non-profit institution, but when they analyzed its creation documentation, it had been created by a state decree, that is, in fact the institution was not a non-profit organization only, it was a non-profit organization that was part of the state power of the state of Minas Gerais, which made the institution part of the public power of the state of Minas Gerais, that is, it could not be indicated in the Action that I had the hands.
I questioned the legal sector of the Convenient, which in fact, had been treating the public institution for decades as an organization of the Third sector. Imagine how many resources and opportunities the institution missed, simply because they didn't know they were part of the state's public power?
I fainted, all I couldn't have at that moment was a mistake of that nature. But anyway, it was one of the mistakes that taught me one of my biggest lessons, small mistakes can do big damage, lol.
Well, it ended up that it was no longer possible to recover the resource and I ended up, and the financier, at the end of 2019 with a loss of almost one million reais.
PILLARS
Therefore, it is extremely important that the fundraiser knows the rules of his fundraising process very well. I have a tripod that I support myself in the fundraising process, whatever the type of fundraising:
- Get to know your Product, your Project like no one else. You have to master what you work on, what you sell. You need to deeply know every detail, every secret, every error, every problem, every bottleneck, what needs improvement and what needs correction, and what you are good at and what needs to improve. Maximize your positives and minimize your negatives. It is not permitted, under any circumstances, that the creator or seller of the Project do not know him deeply;
- Get to know your financier, your investor, your supporter, better than himself. Know how he sees you Project. Know what his strengths and weaknesses are, what his desires and ideals are, how he adheres to your Project, try to understand your Project according to your financier's perception and not according to what you think he thinks. I have a premise when I go to raise funds: I make an exhaustive survey of my financier's entire past life, I check what types of projects he has supported in the past; which areas of activity he is most interested in; I analyze the positive and negative results of the projects he has previously supported, in order to check for any bottlenecks, any negative or positive perspectives on the financing he has already done in the past, in order to have information, which I understand, is privileged, in order to convince him. to contribute to my Project.
and finally.
3. And not least, it is know the rules of the game, if you don't know the rules of the game clearly, by heart, there will definitely come a time when you make an irreparable mistake. The worst mistake is the one that you would have known about, but for some reason, carelessness, lack of effort, or even lack of study, you ended up letting it go. Errors cannot be forgiven, they kill those who most need public resources. Those who are at the forefront, the user, the child, the young person, the elderly, the population in general.
Therefore, when raising federal public resources, it is necessary to know the technical rules that establish how the game works. In this case, it is necessary to know at least the LDO – Budget Guidelines Law, The LOA – Annual Budget Law, MROSC – Regulatory Framework for Organizations Civil society, these are the basic laws that will guide you to avoid mistakes.
Well, it doesn't mean that even after doing all your homework you won't make mistakes, predicting this is almost impossible. But at least by doing your homework your chance of minimizing mistakes exponentially increases your ability to succeed.
