The National Classification of Economic Activities – CNAE is the official classification adopted by the National Statistical System of Brazil and by federal, state and municipal bodies managing administrative records and other institutions in Brazil. The CNAE was structured with reference to the International Standard Industrial Classification of All Economic Activities – ISIC of the United Nations and the management and maintenance of the CNAE is the responsibility of the IBGE, based on the deliberations of the Commission National Classification – Concla. The CNAE currently has 581 classes and is the instrument for national standardization of economic activity codes and classification criteria used by the various bodies of the Brazilian Tax Administration. This classification applies to private or public companies, public and private organizations, non-profit institutions and autonomous agents (individuals).
