APPD – Our History

Founded on March 29, 2006 from the Initiative by Srª Maria Claudete da Silveira Rabelo de Moura, together with people with the same ideals, APPD has been working with society to improve the quality of life of People with Disabilities in our region.
We aim Find, Orient and Insert People with Disabilities in Society and support those who have the most difficulties.
Our commitment is to provide as much information as possible, as we see a continuous increase in people acquiring some type of disability, whether temporary or permanent, resulting from accidents, especially among young people; and the struggle of many in their social inclusion.

Our President
Luiz Carlos Lucas Barbosa, married Father of two sons, Lucas and Leandro, worked as a professional driver for 15 years.
On September 7, 2007, he was with his family in a moment of relaxation when diving, he hit a sandbank and suffered a spinal cord injury, leaving him quadriplegic.
In 2009, he underwent rehabilitation treatment for 3 months at the Sarah Kubitschek Rehabilitation Center where he gained knowledge, and came across the sad reality, realizing the difficulties of people with disabilities and their families in obtaining cutting-edge treatment.
Currently President of APPD, after years, he returned to his studies, giving up the area of Transport and Logistics and joining the Social Service course to better carry out his activities.
In addition to his voluntary service as President of APPD, he works as a speaker and works to find partners and collaborators in order to expand our services.
A Association of People with Disabilities (APPD) of São José dos Campos (SP) is a non-governmental, non-profit organization. Its mission is to locate, guide and insert other people with disabilities and their families into society.
Founded in 2006, APPD is the only institution in Vale do Paraíba that has a board made up of members with disabilities and this is not a momentary fact, it is the main proposal of its statute.
At the time of the NGO's creation, there was no single definition to refer to people with disabilities. One of these ways was to use the word “bearer” in the sense of possessing. However, it fell into disuse in recent years, but remained the official name of the APPD.
With initiatives in the social field, APPD develops activities that provide leadership for people with disabilities, whether in sport or through the creative economy.
Currently, APPD is responsible for institutionally hosting the São José dos Campos Paralympic bocce team. She represents the city in regional, state and national competitions.
Another sporting activity that APPD supports is paracycling. To do this, there is a Partnership with the São José dos Campos Cycling Club, responsible for offering technical support and enabling athletes to participate in various cycling competitions.
Among APPD's social projects is Oficina Mão na Roda, which repairs wheelchairs, crutches and walkers for people who do not have the financial means to pay for repairs to these pieces of equipment that are so important in their lives.
In order to encourage people with disabilities to have an income, APPD holds the Inclusion Artisan Workshop. In it, participants learn to produce handicrafts that they can sell themselves.
In addition to these activities, the institution promotes and supports events that encourage the protagonism of people with disabilities, such as lectures, workshops and fairs.
